Especially since Destiny let you keep using your Shaders over and over. This means each time you use real cash to get a Shader, pop it on one of those oh so disposable pieces of equipment, then realize you have found something better and need a new one, Bungie and Activision profit. One of the ways you get Shaders is through paying actual money for a chance at a new one you could want. Destiny 2 is a game with microtransactions. Even if you have an equipment set you love, there is no way you will still be using it in a week or month. Do you want to throw away something you worked hard for on it? Especially at this stage in the game.
You never know exactly how long you will even bother with an item. This means applying Shaders gets to be useless. Something you’re using today could be obsolete in a few days, if not a few hours. Both in Destiny and Destiny 2, you’re being bombarded with new weapons and armor. Why is this such a big deal? A big part has to do with how disposable gear is in Destiny. Which means all that effort you put toward completing an event, ranking up, winning a match, or earning real money to buy what is essentially a loot box with a chance of getting one is gone. Once you apply a Shader to one of your pieces of equipment, that is it. The problem this time is that they are also consumable. Shaders are, theoretically, rather easy to acquire. Special events, raids, Crucible matches, real-cash purchases, ranking up, and other activities have a chance of giving you Shaders. Yes, we are here to throw shade at the Shader system. If you applied a Shader, then took it off, you could go ahead and reapply it.ĭestiny 2 changes that. Most importantly, they were multi-use item. You could buy them, get them from events, and earn them as rewards for Crucible matches or raids. People would change to match their friends, their Clans, and essentially show off. Since weapons and equipment otherwise look the same, it is a chance for your character to stand out. It can be applied to pieces of your gear to alter the appearance. The Shader situation is shady.įirst, what is a Shader? A Shader is an item that changes the way pieces of equipment looks. But there is a rather big problem for people who like to look different and put a lot of time into the game. It didn’t take me long to start leveling up and getting my character set. A lot of care obviously went into it, and the basic gameplay experience is fun. I have had my problems with it at launch, specifically I couldn’t get into any Crucible match, but it is a work in progress with a strong start. So that part of the system actually does make sense but then there are there the ~25 eververse shaders which make no sense (even buying the boxes from EV isn’t a good way to get more of a specific one that you want).Destiny 2 is a good game. raid shaders from the raid / prestige raid other planetary shaders from their respective vendors and chests CoO legendary mercury shaders from Vance
#Metro shift shader destiny 2 where to get free
Just make them free again.Ĭurrently there are 25-30 shaders that you can get more of by going to a specific place and doing stuff: It could even still be consumable in some way, just allow earning them by, for instance, trading any legendary shader 1-1 for an unlocked eververse shader.Ĭlick to shrink.Yeah I just don’t understand what the point of a currency would be in that case. IMO if they wanna keep shaders in eververse they should change them to a 1 time unlock system similar to how Ornaments or Emotes work. Personally I find that leads to just hoarding the shaders rather than using them out of fear of not being able to get more, which means it’s a failed system. Even buying loot boxes to get them makes no sense as the chance of getting the one you want is so small. Which would be fine except that like 50% or more of the shaders are in RNG eververse loot boxes and unless Tess happens to be selling the one you want (which is like a 4% chance or something) there’s no way to earn more of them. (1/4) With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. Luke Smith said “ Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors.
I just dismantle most eververse shaders for bright dust nowadays but they need to change how the system works. The consumable shaders is not bad in itself but placing consumable shaders in eververse is bad, there is no good way to get the shaders from eververse. Some aspects of the shader system are an improvement in d2.
